Real-Time Payments
Overview of the Real-Time Payments (RTP) network
The Real-Time Payments network is a US-only instant payment network developed and operated by The Clearing House that currently reaches ~65% of US depository accounts.
RTP is a push-only payment rail, meaning there is currently no way to initiate an authorized pull payment, similar to an ACH debit. However, RTP does offer a request notification feature called a Request for Payment (RfP). An RfP tells the recipient’s bank to notify the recipient that the sender is requesting payment. This is similar to a Venmo or Zelle request.
